Exercise physiologists

Exercise physiologists prescribe functional exercise for the purpose of increasing a worker’s capacity for employment.

This includes specific exercise therapy tailored to the worker's injury and work demands, and/or specific work activities.

Information for accredited exercise physiologists

Accredited exercise physiologists must be approved by us to deliver treatment services in the NSW workers compensation system. Our allied health practitioner approval page provides further information on obtaining SIRA approval.

A workers compensation guide for allied health practitioners provides essential information regarding the delivery of treatment services in the NSW workers compensation system. We also strongly recommend you view our 15 minute webinar on the Allied Health Practitioner Framework.

Allied health recovery request (AHRR)

The AHRR has been introduced and replaces the previous exercise physiology management plan.

All SIRA approved practitioners must submit an allied health recovery request (AHRR) when seeking pre-approval for treatment services.

More information is on our allied health recovery request page.

Fees and invoicing

Exercise physiology services are paid in accordance with the accredited exercise physiology Fees Order.

All invoices must be consistent with the current Fees Order and the invoicing requirements

An accredited exercise physiologist is not entitled to recover any amount in respect of treatment that exceeds the maximum fees set out in the Fees Order.

Further requirements for approved exercise physiologists

Where required, you must participate in a review by an independent consultant as outlined in the SIRA workers compensation regulation guideline for approval of treating allied health practitioners.

All allied health practitioners should review this guideline to ensure they are fully aware of their obligations as an approved practitioner.
