How to buy a Green Slip

Purchasing Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance, also known as a Green Slip, is a straightforward process.

You can obtain a Green Slip directly from a licensed insurer, various agents, outlets and online. It's essential to understand both your and the insurer’s responsibilities during this process.

Buying from an insurer

In NSW, there are 6 licensed insurers who issue Green Slips.

As individual risk factors influence the total cost, it is beneficial to shop around for the best quote.

Providing accurate information

When purchasing a Green Slip, you must provide correct information about:

  • the vehicle specifics like year, make and model
  • driver details, such as the youngest driver’s age and any demerit points and any other relevant information requested by the insurer.

Accurate information ensures your Green Slip reflects the correct cost for your individual circumstances.

Failure to provide accurate details can lead to:

  • an adjustment charge reflecting the actual cost of a Green Slip
  • possible vehicle registration cancellation and any reinstatement fees you may be charged
  • applicable penalties.
