Failure to take out CTP insurance

To register your vehicle, you must have Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance, commonly known as a Green Slip.

Driving an unregistered motor vehicle is illegal and is punishable by heavy fines and in some cases, jail. Being caught driving a vehicle without valid CTP insurance, even unknowingly, could result in on-the-spot fines and further penalties if the issue is taken to court.

If you don’t have CTP insurance and are involved in a crash where your vehicle is at fault, you could face substantial fines and other financial recovery actions. The consequences escalate if the crash results in serious injuries or death.

Your CTP insurance is not valid until your vehicle is registered.

To avoid penalties and ensure continuous coverage, purchase your Green Slip and register your car before your current insurance and registration lapses.

If you are a pensioner and receive free vehicle registration you may be eligible for automatic registration renewal.  Please find more details at Service NSW
