Weekly payments are available for a maximum period of 260 weeks (5 years) under Section 39 of the Workers Compensation Act 1987. This does not apply to a worker whose injury results in a degree of permanent impairment of more than 20%.

Ongoing weekly payments
The 260-week limit on weekly payments does not apply to:
- Paid first responders, coal miners or volunteers covered under the Workers Compensation (Bush Fire, Emergency and Rescue Services) Act 1987
- workers with more than 20% permanent impairment.
