Return through work strategy consultation

The NSW Government is creating a whole-of-government Recovery Through Work Strategy (the Strategy) to address declining return-to-work outcomes in the Worker’s Compensation Scheme for public sector employees.

Development of the Strategy is being overseen by a cross-agency steering committee. This includes senior representatives from NSW Treasury, State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA), Insurance and Care NSW (icare), Industrial Relations, the Public Service Commission, and The Cabinet Office.

A comprehensive stakeholder consultation process is being undertaken to inform the Strategy, with meaningful contribution and engagement sought from NSW Government agencies, NSW Government employees who have a work-related injury, and public sector unions. The consultation process is two-staged:

  • The first stage will focus on identifying key return-to-work barriers and opportunities within NSW Government agencies and across the broader public sector to facilitate recovery-through-work and suitable work for all NSW Government employees.
  • The second stage will test and validate the focuses of the draft Strategy, including confirming the draft recommendations.

SIRA is running consultation workshops with public sector employees that have or have had a work-related injury and have indicated in a previous survey that they are interested in participating in future research. These individuals have been sent an email invitation that includes a link to confirm their availability and interest in participating in one of four workshops.
