Happy new year, and welcome to the first edition of the SIRA Bulletin for 2026. I hope the break offered a chance to reset and recharge as we step into what promises to be a significant year for the schemes SIRA regulates. Strengthening our regulatory approach throughout 2026 remains central to ensuring our systems are trusted, financially sustainable and accessible for the people who rely on them.
In this edition, we’re highlighting work that demonstrates the impact of our regulatory role and opportunities for you to help shape the future of health provider regulation in NSW. There’s important progress already underway, and your insights and engagement will be vital as this work evolves.
With several initiatives moving ahead early in the year, we’re looking forward to what SIRA will achieve in 2026.

Have your say on reform to health provider regulation in NSW personal injury schemes
SIRA has commissioned an independent strategic review into health provider regulation in the NSW personal injury schemes to improve compliance, collaboration and outcomes. Read the discussion paper and complete the survey or make a submission on the Have Your Say website until 20 February 2026.
SIRA prosecutes workers compensation fraud worth more than $428,000
SIRA successfully prosecuted an individual for defrauding the Workers Compensation Scheme of over $428,000. The offences involved several acts of dishonesty, including signing false statutory declarations while receiving workers compensation payments and engaging in paid employment.
Fund levy update for Compulsory Third Party (CTP) premiums
The Fund levy is a flat fee determined by SIRA that appears on all NSW Green Slips. It ensures funding for the future treatment and care of people who have been seriously injured in crashes. The average Fund Levy components for all NSW CTP policyholders have now been updated from 15 January 2026.
Market review of self and specialised insurer licensing arrangements in the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme
A review of self and specialised insurer licensing arrangements is being conducted by the Department of Customer Service in collaboration with NSW Treasury. The review aims to ensure the workers compensation insurance market continues to meet the needs of workers with an injury, employers and insurers.
