19 January 2026

SIRA has successfully prosecuted Anita Kaura for defrauding the Workers Compensation Scheme of over $428,000.

On Friday 12 December 2025, Ms Kaura was sentenced in the Local Court in relation to 10 fraud offences under Section 192E of the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW) committed between November 2018 and August 2022.

The offences involved several acts of dishonesty, including signing false statutory declarations while receiving workers compensation payments and engaging in paid employment.

The court sentenced Ms Kaura to 2 years’ imprisonment to be served through an Intensive Correction Order on the condition that she complete 150 hours of community service and report to Parramatta Community Corrections within 7 days.

Ms Kaura paid back $428,008.48 in fraudulent workers compensation funds to the insurer in July 2025, with the court ordering an additional $9,767.18 be paid to the Workers Compensation Insurance Fund and $9,000 to SIRA for professional costs.

This case follows a series of successful prosecutions against individuals and businesses for scheme fraud.

It forms part of SIRA’s broader regulatory enforcement strategy and an ongoing commitment to protecting the integrity of the NSW insurance schemes in its oversight.

Ms Lauren Sayer, Acting Executive Director SIRA Regulatory Operations, commented:

“Our office is committed to protecting the integrity of the Workers Compensation Scheme, ensuring fairness for all.”

“Attempts to deceive or commit fraud will be met with decisive action.”

“We have zero tolerance for fraud.”
