Stakeholder engagement charter

SIRA's approach to stakeholder engagement and consultation.

SIRA regularly engages with a range of stakeholders. Stakeholders are individuals, groups of individuals or organisations who are interested in or directly impacted by our decisions, other than in their capacity as a scheme user or a regulated entity.

Our stakeholders include peak bodies and national associations, other regulators in NSW and across Australia, as well as government agencies, advocacy groups and tripartite committees.

Effective stakeholder engagement helps SIRA in delivering on its core purpose – making sure that the NSW insurance schemes protect and support the people who need them, now and in the future.

SIRA’s Stakeholder Engagement Charter sets out the guiding principles for our approach to stakeholder engagement and provides clarity of what to expect when engaging with SIRA.

Our commitment to our stakeholders

SIRA is committed to listening to and learning from a variety of sources including: scheme users, regulated entities, service providers and stakeholders. We acknowledge that effective engagement is a two-way responsibility and SIRA is guided by the Customer Experience Framework and principles.

Those six principles apply specifically to our engagement with stakeholders as follows:

Explain what to expect - We set a clear purpose and objective for each engagement, explain the engagement process and outline the role of stakeholders in the process.

Respect my time - We give adequate time where possible for stakeholders to review, provide meaningful input and participate in the engagement process.  We make commitments in good faith.

Easy to access - We provide opportunities for stakeholders to easily access information, participate in a meaningful way and provide feedback on engagement processes.

Resolve the situation - We keep stakeholders informed and provide feedback on how their input was considered by SIRA.

Act with empathy - We are open and honest in our engagement, We consider, acknowledge and respect the expertise, perspective, time and needs of stakeholders.

Engaging with the community - We listen and are open to receive feedback. We share relevant insights and evidence, and encourage two-way communication when relevant.
