SIRA launches Mental health recovery action plan

SIRA has published a Mental health recovery and support action plan as a further step toward an integrated, long-term approach to enabling better mental health outcomes for people in NSW.

Evidence shows that people who make psychological injury claims take longer to return to work, have slower recovery journeys, report poorer claims experiences, and have more costly claims than those for physical injury.

The plan is based on research SIRA commissioned from Monash University to combine existing mental health strategies and research, with in-depth stakeholder interviews and surveys.

Based on Monash University’s recommendations, the Mental health recovery and support action plan aims to:

  • improve mental health education, reduce complexity, and address gaps concerning tools, resources, and implementation of guidance
  • work with health care providers on early action and tailored, person-specific treatment and management
  • enable access to evidence-based materials while investing in research and practice-based evidence
  • establish support structures to help realise these opportunities via ongoing stakeholder engagement.

The action plan includes long term goals, guiding principles and a high-level timeline for delivering these initiatives.

You can access the Mental health recovery and support action plan on the SIRA website.
