SIRA Bulletin - Issue 55

8 September 2023

Welcome to the latest issue of the SIRA Bulletin

Last month I attended the fifth and final workshop in our series of events focused on early intervention in the workers compensation scheme. It was great to see such high levels of engagement from insurers and providers across the scheme working together to improve practices and the outcomes for injured workers. In this issue read about the good practice Injury Management Plan, that has been developed by a working group including SIRA and insurers and was launched at one of the earlier events.

In other news, in our efforts to protect NSW homeowners we have commenced an audit of businesses that build residential homes to ensure they have compulsory home building compensation insurance before requesting or accepting any money from their clients. Businesses that fail to insure their projects can face significant penalties.

I am proud to see us delivering this quality of work that reduces risk and delivers better outcomes for the people of NSW.

Home Building Insurance Audit

SIRA is commencing a compliance audit of businesses that build homes in NSW, to ensure they have compulsory home building compensation insurance. SIRA is prioritising businesses for audit based on the number of projects which have no matching insurance records, or the construction certificate and insurance dates indicate a risk that the work may have started, or payments been taken before insurance was purchased.

Injury Management Case Study

SIRA has launched a good practice Injury Management Plan (IMP) to support insurer case managers in their role to optimise recovery and return to work outcomes for injured people. The IMP was designed by a joint insurer and SIRA working group to demonstrate how requirements, expectations, and information design principles translate into a good practice IMP.
