26 June 2026

Key reforms to the workers compensation scheme will commence on 1 July 2026, following amendments introduced through the Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment Act 2025 and the Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment (Reform and Modernisation) Act 2026.

The following regulations and guidelines supporting commencement of these reforms are now available, including:

Further updates to SIRA guidelines, standards of practice and supporting guidance material, will be made to reflect the changes to the Acts and the new regulation over the coming months to support the reforms. This will include additional changes to the Workers Compensation Guidelines, with updates to reasonable and necessary expected in October 2026.

SIRA will continue to engage with stakeholders to support effective implementation of the reforms.

As the reforms are implemented, SIRA's regulatory approach will prioritise supporting capability building of insurers and other regulated entities to apply the changes and to uplift compliance across the scheme. In addition, we will closely monitor regulated entities performance, outcomes and emerging risks.

Further information to support customers and key stakeholders will be progressively made available through SIRA’s website from 1 July 2026.
