SIRA issues a letter of censure to QBE Insurance

16 June 2022

SIRA has issued a letter of censure to QBE Insurance (Australia) Limited under section 9.10(1) of the Motor Accidents Injuries Act 2017.

The breach related to ongoing delays in providing motor accident injury coding data.

The delays are a breach of the insurer’s licence conditions which require that insurers follow the injury coding requirements in the Motor Accident Guidelines and the Motor Accident Injuries Act 2017.

Under these requirements, insurers provide data to SIRA on the nature of a person’s injury.

This data is important in identifying injury trends on NSW roads and in developing prevention and rehabilitation initiatives.

The breaches occurred between June 2019 and January 2022.

SIRA is satisfied that QBE has now remediated the matter.

SIRA will continue to monitor QBE’s performance and ongoing compliance with injury coding requirements.
