Explanatory Notes

The data presented in this report is derived from data provided to SIRA from NSW workers compensation insurers.

Payments data is broken up into two payment classification groups which are as follows:

• Payment Classification level 1 provides a high-level breakdown of workers compensation payments.
• Payment Classification level 2 provides a further breakdown of the categories in payment level 1.

The incorrect coding (TOOCS v3.1) of soft tissue injury claims (Nature code 239) to soft tissue diseases claims (Nature codes 459, 533, and 579) has resulted in deviation from historical claims and payments trends for nature of injury - F. Traumatic Joint/Ligament and Muscle/Tendon Injury and nature of injury - H. Musculoskeletal and Connective Tissue Diseases since 2018/19 financial year.
