Unqualified counsellor breached code of conduct

notice | 24/10/2017

In October 2016 the NSW Healthcare Complaints Commission (HCC) found that Mr David Kaye was providing counselling services at the Sydney Trauma Clinic when he had no formal qualifications in psychology or counselling.

The HCC found that Mr Kaye misrepresented himself as a PHD certified psychologist and failed to provide healthcare services in a safe and ethical manner.

SIRA authorises providers of workplace rehabilitation and other related counselling and psychological services for workers compensation.

SIRA wishes to inform all participants of the NSW Workers Compensation System that Mr Kaye is not authorised to provide any services to injured workers under the scheme.

SIRA understands that Mr Kaye has attempted to recover counselling fees from injured workers.

Should Mr Kaye attempt to recover fees relating to workers compensation claims, please seek legal advice and contact us on 13 10 50.

For a summary of the HCCC’s finding, see Public statement and statement of decision in relation to Mr David Kaye.
