Survey: Understanding the experience and recovery of people in our schemes

notice | 20/03/2020

SIRA is committed to understanding the experience and recovery of people in our NSW Workers Compensation and Compulsory Third Party (CTP) schemes.

Survey postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic: Understanding the experience and recovery of people in our schemes

Update 25 March 2020: survey postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic.

This decision was made after letters were sent to some people who have made a workers compensation or CTP claim in 2019. The letters were sent via Australia Post on Friday 20 March 2020.

With the COVID-19 situation escalating quickly after the letters were sent, we decided immediately that we now have to postpone the survey.

During this time SIRA is continuing to oversee the state’s workers compensation, compulsory third party (CTP) insurance and home building compensation schemes. We will consider undertaking this research in the future.

We do this by:
  • monitoring the performance of insurers and
  • improving the outcomes of people in our schemes.

To do this we have engaged the Social Research Centre (SRC) to undertake research so that we better understand the experience and recovery and hear the ideas of people in the workers compensation and CTP schemes.

SRC is a fully accredited research company that uses suitably trained and qualified interviewers. You can find out more about SRC on their website.

About the research

SRC will conduct a survey via telephone and online during March and April 2020. Some people who have made a workers compensation or CTP claim in 2019 will receive a letter from SIRA explaining the research, inviting them to participate and explaining how to opt-out.

Participation in this survey is voluntary and you are free to withdraw from the survey at any time. If you do not want to participate – please free call SRC on 1800 023 040 .

A representative from SRC will call some claimants and invite them to complete a 20 minute telephone survey (you can schedule this for a time that suits you). Some claimants will receive a unique login to complete an online survey via email. Anyone who has opted out of the research will not be contacted and not everyone who receives the letter from SIRA will be contacted by SRC as people will be randomly selected.

Privacy

SRC is collecting personal and health information on behalf of SIRA. As part of the survey SRC will conduct an analysis of your claim information and your survey results. This information will help us to better understand the experience and recovery of people in our schemes. The results of this survey will be used to monitor the performance of insurers and to improve outcomes. Your personal information will not be disclosed unless required by law. At the end of the research your information will be deidentified.

Access and accuracy

If you wish to access the information that we hold about you, we encourage you to contact SRC on 1800 023 040 . If you are unable to access your information or your request has been denied, please contact the SIRA Privacy Officer at privacy@sira.nsw.gov.au.

If you find that the personal and health information we hold about you is inaccurate, please let us know so that we can correct the information. If we refuse to amend the information, we will give you reasons for that decision e.g. because we disagree that the information is inaccurate, or otherwise where authorised by law.
