New dispute resolution process for workers compensation
The NSW Government has announced plans to reform the workers compensation system following an extensive review.
2018 review of the workers compensation scheme
The NSW Legislative Council Standing Committee on Law and Justice has commenced its second review of the workers compensation scheme. On 1 May 2018, the Committee published its terms of reference for the review and called for submissions from interested individuals and organisations. The closing date for submissions is 17 June 2018.
The terms of reference note that the review will focus on consideration of the feasibility of a consolidated personal injury tribunal for Compulsory Third Party and workers compensation dispute resolution, as per recommendation 16 of the committee’s first review of the workers compensation scheme, including where such a tribunal should be located and what legislative changes are required; and recommending a preferred model to the NSW Government.
Additional information about the review, including how to make a submission, are available from the Committee’s website.
