Final report on IPART’s review of the HBC scheme
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has released the Final Report on its review of the home building compensation (HBC) scheme. IPART has recommended a range of changes to the design, regulation and administration of the scheme.
IPART’s recommendations are intended to:
- Improve oversight of building work and dispute resolution processes for homeowners
- Change regulatory requirements to improve the operation of the scheme and facilitate new providers entering the market
- Provide clearer information about insurance requirements, builder eligibility and the overall performance of the scheme
- Enhance icare’s administration of its HBC insurance products
SIRA welcomes IPART’s report and looks forward to working with stakeholders to deliver improved customer outcomes and experience. SIRA is commencing work to implement some of IPART's recommendations and conducting further analysis and consultation to inform advice to the Minister for Customer Service.
Further updates will be provided throughout 2021 on SIRA’s approach and actions.
Updated workers compensation PIAWE form
SIRA has updated the Pre-injury average weekly earnings (PIAWE) form to accommodate changes made as a result of the Workers Compensation Amendment (COVID-19 Weekly Payment Compensation) Regulation 2020.
This form will replace the PIAWE form available for use for workers with a date of injury on or after 21 October 2019.
